Spinal Cord Injuries
In serious accidents, people can suffer brain injuries and spinal trauma.

Brain injuries range in severity.  Brain injuries may result from a fracture or a penetration of the skull.  Damage to the brain may occur at the time of an impact and/or may occur later with swelling or bleeding within the brain.  Brain injuries can also result from a closed-head injury.  Closed head injuries can occur when there is a rapid acceleration or deceleration of the head.  In many closed head injury cases, there are usually no apparent signs of bleeding or external injury.

Following an accident involving head trauma, it is important to seek immediate medical attention. With treatment, the condition will have the most improvement within one-two years of the trauma. Thereafter the condition largely stabilizes.  It is for this reason that it is critical that the victim’s injuries be carefully evaluated, so that a plan for rehabilitation can be developed and implemented.  Medical experts will be required to treat and explain the nature and extent of a victim’s injuries.

Injuries to the spine vary.  If an injury damages the spinal cord, the impact to an individual can be catastrophic.  When a person sustains a spinal cord injury, teams of doctors work to help the individual achieve the best medical and rehabilitation outcome.

An injury in the lower spine can result in paraplegia, the loss of use of the legs.  Injuries higher up the spine can result in quadriplegia, a loss of use of both arms and legs.  You will need assistance in receiving proper consultations so you and your loved ones can fully understand your needs and where to quickly and efficiently obtain required services.
